The Blooming Mug began with a simple daydream:

What if you could “hug” a mug without having to grip it?

During treatment for breast cancer, chemotherapy left my hands and nails extremely painful. Everyday tasks became unexpectedly difficult—particularly anything that required me to open, close or grip. Even something as simple as holding my daily coffee could be uncomfortable.

From that experience came the idea for the Blooming Mug.

I began imagining the flowers on the mug not just as decoration, but as something that could bloom outward and become part of the way you hold it. The flower’s stem extends from the cup, creating a gentle place for the fingers to rest.

Rather than wrapping your hand around a conventional handle and gripping tightly, the Blooming Mug can be “hugged” between the index and middle fingers, allowing the hand to rest naturally around the cup.

It became a small but meaningful rethink of something so familiar: how a hand holds a mug.

And so, the flower blooms—not just for decoration, but to offer a different way of holding something as everyday as a cup of coffee or tea.

The Blooming Mug is a little reminder that good design can begin with something as simple as listening to what our hands need.

How long will it take for my cup to be made?

These cups are made to order. Please allow up to 6 weeks for your Blooming mug to be made. 

How will it be made?

Your handmade mug will be wheel thrown using a buff coloured midfire clay. 

Your mug will also be completely unique. You can expect to see variations in the size, shape and glaze and evidence of where my hands or tools have touched your mug - this is what makes handmade and hand glazed pottery stand out in all the right ways.

What colour will it be?

The best part about these mugs is that each one is handpainted with a floral design and a clear glaze over the top. The inside is glazed in a pale pink.

How big will it be?

Each mug will be made to hold up to approximately 400ml. Please remember, as each custom cup is handmade, the exact size and shape may vary - no two mugs will ever be exactly the same.

How should I care for it?

Your mug will be dishwasher and microwave safe, but I strongly recommend hand washing with care.
